Hello everybody, it’s me again, Dan, welcome to my recipe site. Today, I will show you a way to make a special dish, shukto. It is one of my favorites. For mine, I am going to make it a bit unique. This will be really delicious.

Shukto is one of the most favored of current trending foods in the world. It’s enjoyed by millions every day. It’s simple, it’s quick, it tastes yummy. They are fine and they look fantastic. Shukto is something that I have loved my entire life.

Shukto is a popular Bengali dish made during festivals and special occasions like kitty party, potluck, buffet and on a family get-together. This traditional Shukto recipe is loved by the people of all age groups. Shukto (Bengali: শুক্তো) is a popular vegetable dish in Bengali cuisine usually served with rice in the West Bengal state of India and in the neighbouring country Bangladesh.

To get started with this particular recipe, we have to first prepare a few components. You can have shukto using 18 ingredients and 4 steps. Here is how you can achieve it.

The ingredients needed to make Shukto:
  1. Prepare 1 cup raddish, diced
  2. Get 1 cup green plantain, diced
  3. Take 1 cup green papaya, diced
  4. Take 7-8 broad beans, chopped into half
  5. Prepare 1 cup yam, diced
  6. Take 1 small potato, diced
  7. Get 1/2 cup bitter gourd, sliced
  8. Get 2-3 tbsp mustard oil
  9. Get 6-7 bori (lentil dumplings / mangodi / vadi)
  10. Take 1 whole dry red chilli
  11. Get 1 tsp panch phoron (equal quantity of fennel, mustard, cumin, fenugreek & nigella seeds
  12. Make ready 2 bay leaves
  13. Get to taste salt
  14. Prepare 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  15. Take 2 tbsp mustard paste / kasundi
  16. Get 1/2 cup milk
  17. Take 1 tsp ghee
  18. Get 1/2 tsp sugar (opttional)

It is mildly spiced, vibrant flavors and color. Shukto is also a culinary experience for whoever eats it and a culinary achievement for whoever cooks it. Susruta, Charaka, Dhanwantari were a few of them. Bengal was most probably the last bastion of the Ayurvedic way of eating.

Steps to make Shukto:
  1. Heat 1 tbsp. oil in a pan and fry the bori till golden brown in colour. Drain and keep aside. In the same oil fry the sliced bitter gourd till light golden brown and keep aside.
  2. Heat the remaining of the oil and temper with the dry red chilli, bay leaves and the panch phoron.
  3. After it stops spluttering, add the chopped veggies and saute on low flame for 5-7 minutes till light brown. Add 11/2 cups water, fried bori, salt and turmeric powder.
  4. Cover and cook on low flame till the veggies turns soft and the gravy is slightly reduced. Now add the milk, ghee, sugar and mustard paste. Simmer for 2-3 minutes and serve with steamed rice.
