  7. Get 1/4 tsp hing

Add cut Sem phalli (broad beans), salt and stir. Remove the ends and string them, just pluck the end of a bean with your hand and then pull down word, if a thick thread comes away, so do the same on the other side. In a wide bowl or kadai, heat oil. Add cumin seeds, mustard seeds and curry leaves, cilantro and toast the popu.

Steps to make Broad beans curry/chikkudukaya curry:
  1. In a kadhai take oil add mustard,cumin. Then add hing, turmeric and chopped tomato and saute till soft
  2. Add beans,red chilli powder,salt,sugar,water and cook covered for 10 mins. Stir occasionally.
  3. Once cooked add peanut powder mix well and cook for 2-5 mins and serve.

Heat a kadai and add oil. When oil is hot add mustard, cumin seeds,green chilli, chopped onions and fry. Now add tomatoes, curry leaves and fry. Not a very pleasant looking bean but then is packed with a lot of fibre and nutrients like most not-so-good looking vegetables do. Today's recipe is beans cooked in tomato, a very basic recipe and the addition of jaggery and garam masala makes a dramatic difference to an otherwise ordinary every day curry.
